Note: There are more Tai Chi videos for practice through out this page.

Try these two videos for a great start to you day. Please remember, easy does it. If you have hip joint replacements do not ever cross one leg over or in front of the other in any exercise.  If you have shoulder pain or a recent injury allow your shoulder to heal for 4-6 weeks then begin to move the arm. Seek the advice of your physician on what you can and can not do in exercise. If you are clear to move the arms and shoulder then do so slowly. In time you will reach and extend a little more with practice. Never force a movement. If the movement feels uncomfortable STOP then reduce your range of movement.

Important Note : Take it easy and relax there is no goal to accomplish just daily practice that opens and relaxes your body more and more. If your shoulders are stiff just feel the relief of smaller circles. The larger circles you may see an instructor do are something you can aspire towards with practice. No need to over extend yourself and do harm. Go at your own pace. These movements are feel good movements if they do not feel good reduce your extension, bends and movements and do little bits of it or just stand and use your mind to imagine doing the movements. Imagining yourself doing the movements is powerful ! Science has discovered imaging can build muscle, change your DNA and relax and heal your body. If you have soreness after practicing then this is a sign that gives you permission to slow down, listen to your body and respect and honor your body as you practice.

Tai Chi is a different kind of exercise and way to move. Relax as much as possible and easy does it. These movements may look ineffective because they are so slow. This is very deceiving to those of us who think of exercise as a forceful and action orientated activity that has goals and deadlines. There is none of that here. Actually this is the most effective way for the brain to learn and the body to absorb the movements.  This slow motion of Tai Chi is also appropriate for people who are recovering, going through treatments or just want to maintain their health. Tai Chi is for all ages and body types and situations.

Try this simple exercise.

In the video below : Learn the classic Qi Gong Eight Silken Brocade or 'Ba Duan Jin' exercise with Qi Gong Master David James Lees of Peak House Practice.

This clip was shot in beautiful Yangshou in southern China. Practicing Qi Gong outdoors and connecting with the Qi and energy of your natural surroundings can be amazing - just find a nice green place and be...

Next video is Zhan Zhuang Qi Gong, often called 'standing pole' or 'standing tree' Qi Gong is one of the classic Taoist Qi Gong exercises. The five simple positions of this form of Qi Gong take only a short while to learn but a lifetime to master! It is a very powerful and meditative Qi Gong style which we love teaching at Peak House Practice.

There is not too much DOING in Tai Chi, it is instead BEING with body mind and spirit. The slow movements helps the mind learn what is happing in the body.  Practicing Tai chi and even watching Tai Chi is very relaxing.

Please listen to this beautiful flute for Tai Chi as you read.

Tai Chi (pronounced tie-chee) is an ancient Chinese exercise
Tai Chi is neither vigorous nor strenuous. It is suitable for anyone who want to exercise to gain or maintain good health. Tai Chi will sooth your stress, it will strengthen and massage the muscles and organs, bones, relax the mind and body, improve blood circulation, improve balance and increase memory concentration. More people are learning these Chinese healing arts to cope with the stresses of everyday life and achieve balance and strength. Tai Chi can be practiced standing, sitting, and lying down and can also be practiced in the mind with amazing results. Tai Chi is for everyone and appropriate for all ages and levels and conditions.

Relearning Balance

As we go through life we tend to be up in our heads thinking about to do lists and schedules and work, family and daily challenges. How we connect to the earth becomes imbalanced. In Tai Chi close attention to the feet and how they connect with the ground is a basic skill relearned. As we bring attention down to the feet we can actually feel our weight sink into the ground in a balanced way. Also our balanced issues are mostly in our head. We may have felt out of balanced at one time and believed it to be so from that moment on. These students below are beginning to retrain their mind to accept their balance.

Beginning of perfect balance training the mind to open to other possibilities not yet considered, strengthening the legs
feeling the connection to the earth by sinking the weight into the feet..

Many people come to Tai Chi Class to learn balance.
And many of these students rediscover their balance within weeks by learning basic principles and practicing these principles.

Balance is possible even with an inner ear challenge. This woman was sent to my class by her doctor.

Never had balance? Now you can !

This man (in the picture above) made a bet with a close friend he could balance on one leg. As you can see he won the bet!

Accomplish what others say is impossible

Can you do this ?

You can do it if you have the desire and willingness to learn and practice.

Children Love Tai Chi

Tai

We are going through the Elements. this movement is Fire

Tai Chi/Qigong has a whole different way to move than what we are used to. It takes a little slowing down from our usual hectic pace.  I suggest attending at least 6 weeks of class at least 2 times a week to try it out. Tai Chi becomes a way of life and improves all aspects of our experience here on earth. It is a self-healing practice and enhances our personal growth.

TEENS AND TAI CHI

Imagine this kind of stress relief and self care for our teens

These high school students above enjoyed these movements. When the demonstration began, there was a little self-conscious snickering and slouching bodies. In 10 minutes this high school group began to flow with grace and ease.  Imagine a world where teenagers have something that will help them cope with the stresses of life.

TAI CHI FOR FLEXIBILITY

In this day of computer games and technology we sit for long periods of time.  Movement lubricates our joints and keeps us flexible.

Many people experience stiffness in their necks, shoulders, backs, hips, legs and feet. Little by little we loosen and open to relaxing our bodies. There is no goal in Tai Chi. With practice the improvements come. These pictures below show my students who have overcome bursitis, arthritis, sports injuries and general stiffness through daily practice of Tai Chi.

strength and confidence

Bursitis relieved

This man came to Tai Chi class to improve his golf game.
He had bursitis and was receiving cortisone shots. After 6 classes he had full range of movement in his shoulders where before he could not even reach to open his kitchen cupboards. When he reached his goal, he immediately went to the golf course after this picture was taken.

Look, Deborah, I can touch my toes!

TAI CHI/QIGONG IS AN ALTERNATIVE INTEGRATIVE THERAPY

Tai Chi/Qigong can lessen the effects of chemotherapy, strengthen the immune system, ease the symptoms of Parkinson's, shingles, depression, anxiety and other medical conditions. Tai Can be done sitting, standing or lying down. this makes Tai Chi/Qigong a remarkable opportunity for the handicapped. Tai Chi/Qigong can be done with the mind and breath alone.

was diagnosed with leukemia with 3 months to live. She signed up for Tai chi class. This is her (above picture)  2 years later.

WHAT IS THIS CHI OR ENERGY?

I think the concept of life force energy may be the most difficult for Western minds to understand. It takes a certain amount of "slowing down" and body awareness to notice the subtle qualities of the "chi"
( a Chinese word describing life force energy) in the body. It is all about body awareness that helps us feel this energy. Long ago it took the Chinese students years of practice to feel and understand their energy body. In the picture below students hold left palm up and right palm down over the person's hand to their right. Students can feel a noticeable sensation pulsating from left to right through the circle. The group is asked to envision well-being during this exercise. They love it and want to continue the practice longer than time allows!

Below are my students practicing a human circle of energy.

Free 45 Day Challenge with Master Llama Rasaji

I am currently practicing with Rasaji via his website. My husnamd even joins me.

It feels so good like a gentle massage to our skin, muscles, ligaments and joints.  Rasaji has over 40 years experience with Tai Chi Gung. He lived and trained at the original school in Tibet. An updated version of these same warm up exercises, (still free) are now available at www.rasaji.com  when you join a FREE 45 Day Challenge. You can also download a free copy of the first chapter of Rasaji's Book: "Rasaji's Circle of Life" when you visit www.rasaji.com

Tai Chi can be practiced from a chair, standing, even lying down with the mind imagining the movements. Now we see a chair routine in this Tai Chi routine, by teacher Bob Klein,. For those of us who sit long periods of time. It strengthens the body, stretches the neck, shoulders and hips, massages the organs and helps with weight loss. This exercise can be done at your desk to revitalize, energize and uplift your mood and increase circulation. I do this exercise every morning after my Rasaji Routine ( above). I also am doing it mid day after a day of writing my articles and stories. .

The next video is done so gracefully and smoothly and with such precision I wanted to include it on this page. This is Part 1 of The Eight Brocades of Qigong, pronounced Chee Gung, An ancient form of Tai Chi Exercise. Do not do these exercises if you have neck, back or shoulder problems. These can be addressed by a good Tai Chi Instructor gradually until you become more flexible.

Below is a gentle yet effective routine called, Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi is a Qigong which based on the philosophy of Tai Chi and extracts some of the best movements from the Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. It places emphasis on synchronizing the 18 movements with proper breathing techniques. It is a gentle, beautiful and flowing Qigong exercise routine that is both a joy to do and deeply relaxing.

Instruction manual and other resources of this qigong is available at www.taichi18.com   for free download
