Improve Your Eyesight Naturally

This post is full of exercises that can improve eyesight. I have used these with quick results. I used to wear glasses and practiced many of the following eye exercises. Soon I was able to see very well without my eye glasses. The eye exercises are very easy and do not take much time. 10-15 minutes daily

Do these 5 exercises in the video below. This is a very good video to begin with.

The following video gets great reviews on Youtube

Dr. Mandell The Motivational Doc has some very good exercises for the eyes in this video below.

Join Master Qi Gong Teacher Lee Holden to learn three exercises and pressure points to increase circulation and healing energy to your eyes. These simple exercises can help naturally improve your eyesight over time. They're also great for headaches!

This is a wonderful article I found online about Dr. William H. Bates / Founder of the Bates Method
The Ophthalmologist

The Bates Method is about changing your visual straining habits that caused your eyesight problem. The only way to see better permanently is to apply those natural, healthy habits all day.

12 Movements of Longevity Stick

12 movements of Longevity Stick

The Longevity Stick Regime incorporates a series of 12 movements designed to improve flexibility, balance, strength mental focus, breathing capacity,

 and vitality The exercise which is done by standing takes its name from the only piece of equipment used in its practice - a 1 inch-thick dowel that is an inch or two longer than the practitioner's height. The exercise was created in 1981 by Mai Bac Dau, a Vietnamese citizen who survived 5 years in a communist concentration camp following the fall of South Viet Nam in 1975.

Combining his knowledge of eastern and western medicine, he combines exercising with the longevity stick with a vitality adjustment to help promote better health as well as better physical movement capabilities.

This is a very good video on how to do Longevity Stick. The channel did not allow embedding on another site so click on this link to watch it on Youtube. https://youtu.be/ePipx-G35wA

Do you believe in Fairies?

Public Domain www.reusableart.com

Do you believe in Faeries? As a child my mother enchanted me with her stories about how the faeries held tea parties in the garden and sat on mushrooms. When I see mushrooms on the lawn or in my garden or a forest I imagine, in my mind's eye, those little faeries sitting around in a circle giggling and relaxing in the evening.

The history and legends of faeries are fascinating and go deeper into all the nature elementals including the Mermaids, Selkies, Sylphs, Gnomes, Tree People, Leprechauns, and more.

It is said that every blade of grass has an angel hovering over it, calling to it, saying: “Grow!” The instant the angel calls forth a single urge to grow, it fades away. In the next moment another angel appears over the blade of grass, and it calls out, “Grow!” It too then instantly disappears, while yet another and another and another angel appears, fresh in every moment, urging the grass to Grow!

Thus, every single blade of grass has untold trillions of angels attending it, urging it to live. So too every leaf, every living being, and indeed every atom has its angels urging it to move, to fly, to be whatever it is. Yes, even every wave, every vibration, every nuance of this universe has its mystery which can be described in angelic terms.

~ Talmud, Ancient Sacred Text

Tree Spirit near the Fremont River in Fruita Camp,
Capitol Reef National Park, Utah.

You may look at the grass a bit different now. You may even see faces in the trees. The more I learn about nature spirits, the more I come across more guidance and miracles as my awareness deepens. the elementals are nature angels and very helpful if you just ask.

So.... once you have been enchanted by the idea of these nature angels then as Rabbi Alan Lurie wrote  ...

Now you begin to realize that there are possibilities for understanding the world to which you were completely blind, because you absolutely believed your construct about how things are. Suddenly the incredible possibility arises that your construct may not be the absolute truth, and there is another way of seeing things. Then, in the birth of new possibilities you grow and are pulled forward, as new ways of seeing your life and the world appear. Then, you look back of where you’ve been with gratitude at the urgent, persistent whisper of growth.

Here is a card I made from an old fairy tale. Part of the fairy tale is written inside, You may personalize this card.

Acupressure - Easy and Effective.

Acupressure - Easy and Effective

Names have been changed.

Abby had insomnia due to some radical changes in her life which caused stressed. She couldn't sleep. Her mind was filled with thoughts and she couldn't relax. Sound familiar? We all experience a sleepless night  from time to time but when it continues over a long period of time we begin to lose our natural bearings in every aspect of our life. Her concentration was impaired, her immune system was challenged, she became grouchy, out of sorts and had bouts of depression. Abby wasn't herself. She made an appointment for her general practitioner.

She came home with a handful of pills to help with depression. The pills caused her legs to become numb, her hands tremble and she experienced dizziness and had to sit to avoid fainting or falling. The side effects of the pills were worse than her original complaint. She returned to the doctor and told him of her reaction to the pills. The doctor slid over to the counter, pulled open a drawer and took out several packages of samples.

samples of pills for insomnia
from the doctor's drawer

Abby was shocked at the next batch of pills and asked, "Is this is a hit and miss type of thing?". The doctor rephrased it by saying well, we just need to try some other medicine.

 Abby decided not to take the pills. Her friend Betsy gladly offered to give her a full body acupressure treatment. Betsy had taken a 16 hour course in Full Body Acupressure Treatment. Acupressure is similar to Acupuncture without the needles. Firm gentle pressure is applied to special areas on the body to cleanse accumulated stress and restore balance to the energy systems within the body. Abby felt immediate results. She was so relaxed at her first treatment she fell comfortably asleep. She received 4 treatments in 2 weeks. Abby looked forward to each session.

Betsy also taught Abby's husband to do a simple treatment on Abby's hand at night when they went to bed. Abby would lie down by her husband and raise her nearest hand over to her husband who lovingly took her hand and laid it on a soft pillow over his belly. He then began to perform this simple acupressure treatment. Abby fell asleep after 7 of the 12 points. Her husband continued till he was done with all 12. Every night he helped her. Abby was sleeping through the night. Her husband found that doing the treatment relaxed him as well. Abby also learned how to do these 12 points on herself.

This is a true story. And what a beautiful story. This therapy helped Abby with all her symptoms. I want to show you also how to help yourself , a friend or a family member.

Important *
Always consult your general practitioner if you are seriously ill. This article is not to diminish the value of conventional healthcare. This report is to educate and reveal the wonderful opportunities we have to chose from. It is my hope that patients ask for safe alternative drug-free therapies just like we ask for better products and services in everyday life. It is time to incorporate the whole body in what we are experiencing as dis-ease.

WHEN NOT TO USE ACUPRESSURE     Note: There are other safe alternative therapies that can be used in these cases to bring relief to insomnia.

  1. Do not apply acupressure to any open cuts or where there is swelling or inflammation.
  2. Avoid scar tissue, boils, blisters, rashes and burns.
  3. Do not apply pressure on varicose veins.
  4. If the recipient has high blood pressure or epilepsy do not apply pressure to the top of the head.
  5. Do not apply pressure to elderly, young children, or those with arthritis or osteoporosis. I use acupressure on my 12 year old grandson and he loves it.
  6. If a person has a serious illness like cancer or heart disease. have them obtain a doctor's approval before giving any bodywork.
  7. If a person has a fever or any kind of infection, from cold or flu to an ear infection, do not work on them until the infection is gone. Acupressure stimulates the the flow of the circulatory and lymphatic systems and can spread the infection.
  8. This does not imply to these specific hand points. But for a full body treatment read further. If a woman is pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant, make sure of the areas to avoid. Acupressure in certain areas can cause uterine contractions and can inhibit or endanger pregnancy.

Here are some Jing Well points. Do not perform #7 if you are pregnant.

LEFT HAND RIGHT HAND

PALM RIGHT HAND (SAME FOR LEFT HAND)

DRAWINGS BY DEBORAH MOEN

  • Press on each point, beginning at #1 using the tip of the thumb or index finger. It is important to trim the thumb and index nails.  Be sure to carefully gage how much pressure the recipient can handle by asking "How is this? Is it too hard?" etc.  acupressure points are places along the energy channels of the body that are close to the surface. Press straight down using the tip of the finger. Do not bend the thumb or index finger back at the knuckle. Practice on an orange or lemon.

  • When pressing on these acupressure points the recipient will know if you are on target because the point has a definite tight sensation to it. Especially on 7,8,11 and 12. Concentrate on the tip of your finger while pressing and you may feel the energy there.

  •  Begin at the base of each finger and gently squeeze upward towards the tip of the finger. Begin your pressure very, very gently like a butterfly landing on the point, then firmly press down. Ask the recipient if the pressure is too hard or too soft. Hold each point for 15-30 seconds. Use slow complete breaths to measure the time. 3 slow breaths are usually 15 seconds. Lift your finger off the point very gently. Then proceed to the next point.

  • Practice makes perfect. The more you review this technique by doing, the easier it becomes. This treatment is so relaxing and it is a form of meditation.
 FYI-LOCATIONS AND INDICATIONS  BE SURE TO CONSULT YOUR GENERAL PRACTIONER FOR ALL CONDITIONS LISTED BELOW.  This article is expressly for those who want to try an alternative method for their insomnia. This alternative method is one of many that brings relief to stress and pain.

Like Walking Through The Brick Wall- Personal Story

Like Walking through A Brick Wall

My personal story by Deborah Moon Moen

 There came a time in my 40's that I came to learn how to stand on my own two feet. Suddenly I realized that no one was going to do it for me.
I knew I was responsible for everything that I was experiencing.
I came to realize the only person that I could change was myself.
No more could I depend on others to make me happy or secure.

I learned new ways of living and each new response to life was difficult because the old ways had become a habit.

Every time I changed an old pattern of belief or thought, it was like I was having to walk through a brick wall.
Waking up in the morning and getting through my day seemed as hopeless as walking through a brick wall.
But these were only my fearful perceptions.
In time, with practice, I was running free with so much of life before me.

Suddenly, I could not see that brick wall which I had painted in my mind. I saw only endless possibilities. I could see that for every response I made, life responded back to me, in magical ways.

When my actions and responses supported my well-being,
it was well-being that reflected back to me.
That was the evidence that gave me faith and shifted me into my inherit power to create my own experiences.

I was empowered beyond my wildest or conscious imaginings and I knew that I would never go back behind that brick wall again.

How Switchwords Helped Me Down The Mountain

How Switchwords Helped Me Down The Mountain

  I remembered to use switchwords to help me get down a steep rocky trail. The forest was damp with mist.  I was afraid of slipping. I stopped at the top of the trail. I placed my hand on my third eye and spoke these switchwords with the intention of calling forth help and to open my mind to have faith.

 TOGETHER         DIVINE           FAITH

After uttering the words, I instantly felt I was not alone. Together with the divine I had confidence to make my way down the mountain. Where before it looked to difficult to walk, I could now clearly see stable places where I could place my feet without slipping. I felt relaxed and confident, at one with the earth.
 It was a magical feeling throughout my whole being.

Switchwords have a mysterious feeling to them. They work better than affirmations because they pass by the anaytical mind and straight to the subconscious. You can say them silently or aloud, write them in a journal, write them on a bottle of water, and you can chant them. Think of them at the beginning of meditation. Here are some resource where you can begin to learn more about switchwords. The Internet is also full of information. Give it a try if you are inspired.

Balance-How You Can Do It !

                    Students using the wall to practice balance.

Always consult with your doctor before doing these exercises.

As we go through life we tend to be up in our heads thinking about to do lists and schedules, work, family, and daily challenges.  We may forget our connection to the earth. Many people eventually have trouble balancing. We may have stumbled or lost our balance  at one time and came to believe we did not have balance from that moment on.

Tai Chi practice helps us become very conscious of the earth and how it support us.  As we bring attention down to the feet and relax the mind and body, we can feel how our weight sink into our feet  in a balanced way.  These students below are beginning to retrain their mind to accept their balance.

Ask a friend or a family member to stand near you while you do this exercise. Have them make sure your back is straight and your eyes are looking at the wall without leaning. It is also nice to have some encouragement.

  1. Step up to a wall
  2. Place hands flat on the wall directly in front of the shoulders.
  3. Feet are about 8" apart.
  4. With hands flat on the wall, adjust your distance from the wall so you can stand up straight without leaning. Elbows are bent.
  5. Keep hand flat against the wall. Pick up your right foot a few inches off the ground. (see image below) Use the wall for balance. If lifting your foot off the ground is too much for you then lift up your heel only as you feel the weight shift into your other leg.
  6. Feel how the weight transfers to the other leg and foot. Hold 10 seconds and put the foot down.
  7. As you do this keep you eyes on the wall.
  8. Repeat on other side.
  9. Make this part of your day
  10. You can gradually increase your hold in time
  11. You can get to where you barely touch the wall and when you feel confident, eventually just touch with your fingertips then after you practice this for a few days lift your hands from the wall.
  12. The wall is there to support you if you need it.
  13. Keep your body straight and eyes ahead.
  14. In a few weeks when you get stronger, try this without the wall

Beginning to relearn balance, by strengthening the legs
feeling the connection to the earth by sinking the weight into the feet. The mind also discovers you can balance !

Many people come to Tai Chi Class to learn balance.
And many of these students rediscover their balance within weeks by learning basic principles and practicing these principles.

Balance is possible even with an inner ear challenge. This woman (above image) was sent to my class by her doctor.

Never had balance? Now you can !

His friends didn't believe he could balance.  He read an article on how Tai chi can help with balance and made a bet with a close friend he could balance on one leg. He followed along in class and as you can see he has succeeded!

Accomplish what others say is impossible

Can you do this ?

You can do it if you have the desire and willingness to learn and practice.

One of my students who always came into class with her walker.
Left after class without her walker. We noticed her walker in the back of the classroom and ran to find her. She was already in the parking lot. We had a good laugh !

Thank you for visiting Deborah's Little Gems
I hope you enjoyed this post.
Until next time,
Practice your balance.

How I Learned To Meditate- Personal Story

How I Learned To Meditate

My Personal Experience Learning Meditation

When I was introduced to meditation, I had no idea how beneficial it would be for my mind, body and my life. There came a time in my late 30's when I needed to quiet my thoughts. My head was so busy it was hard to relax or sit still. I could only look at magazines with pictures because I couldn't even focus enough to read. My life had become unmanageable, I began meditation with a 12 Step group that practiced 5 minutes of silent meditation in their Sunday meeting.

Silence and stillness was very uncomfortable at first. My palms would perspire, my heart raced, and my mouth went dry. This does not happen to everyone, of course. What helped me was the group allowed us to focus on the St. Francis Prayer in our book.  Slowly my fears of being still, dissolved. In time my mind was became calmer and my body felt more relaxed. Meditation became something to look forward to.

As my mind became clearer, I was able to memorize the entire St. Francis Prayer " Lord make me a channel of thy peace...".  See prayer below. You may recognize this prayer with a a few differences.

St Francis Prayer - 12 Step Version

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace;

that where there is hatred, I may bring love;

that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;

that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;

that where there is error, I may bring truth;

that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;

that where there is despair, I may bring hope;

that where there are shadows, I may bring light;

that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;

to understand, than to be understood;

to love, than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.

It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.

It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.

Amen.

Every Sunday, a person was chosen to read the St. Frances Prayer out loud before our 5 minute meditation. One day I was chosen and recited the prayer by memory. I had come a ways from the person who couldn't read a magazine because her mind was too busy.

My next adventure was attending a special meditation group that met in a small building on the beach. This group had a silent meditation for 20 minutes! The longer meditation added a whole new dimension to my practice. I was able to reach a new level of deep relaxation. It was this practice that sparked my interest and inspired me to begin seeking a spiritual path.

I also attended a meditation class open to the public at the beautiful Hsi Lai Buddhist Temple in Hacienda Heights, CA. We were guided to breathe deeply and slowly and on the exhale we would count from 10 down to one equaling 10 breaths. We would inhale then exhale count 10, breathe in then exhale count 9...

We were instructed to stop if our minds wandered and begin all over again. I was nervous at first but after practicing a few minutes I began to relax and enjoy the experience. The session began with 3 distinct chimes and ended with them.  One night we were lead in a walking meditation in a serpentine formation. I had some deeply profound thoughts, creative visions and experiences during this time. It is different for everyone but the benefits of relaxation is well worth the experience.

Where my thinking was limited before, I now see endless possibilities. My relationship with myself grew and I began to know what I wanted to do in my life.. I grew to love many activities such as Tai Chi. I changed from being a dressmaker and became a Fitness Specialist as a Tai Chi Instructor. I utilized meditation in the beginning of my classes to relax the students minds and bodies.

Experience Is The Greatest Teacher

Sparrows on icy winter branches and
ravens  flying over head with frosted wings.

The temps have been dropping down from 20 to 6 degrees between 4 am and 7 am the past few days. I made my mind up before going to sleep that I would get up early to turn on the heat lamp in the coop.

I got up at 5 am got my warm clothes on and filled the water buckets, with warm water, in the kitchen sink. I stepped out into the new snow. It was so beautiful outside. Everything was enveloped in an icy fog. I made my way to the coop. I had my Yak Trax (crampons) on. They help me feel confident on the new snow. The snow from last week had turned to ice.

I Love My Yak Trax
You can get them on amazon.com
They are awesome !

I took off the blue tarp I had clamped across the front of the coop to stop the wind and snow from entering. I noticed one of the door latches were unhitched by the strong winds last night.

I opened the door with gloved hands because flesh can stick to freezing metal. The freshly filled water bucket was set inside the coop, the heat lamp was turned on, and the feed was replenished, along with some very desired dried meal worms, and sunflower seeds.

The bucket I had in there was frozen solid so I removed it and set it where the sun would help the ice to melt. My ducks and hens have a small insulated room where they roost. There was not so much as a quack or a peep while I was in there except for Fae, our white Plymouth Rock hen who came out and began eating. She looked great, unscathed by the bitter cold.

I shoveled the paths and cleared the corral along the fence so the llamas could eat their hay. The green hay looked so beautiful against the white snow. My hair was frozen and I had white frost where my breath had flowed in and out.

Overhead I saw the ravens flying from the west. I could see their under wings were frosted with ice.

Raven's wings and power line were frosted with ice.

I enjoyed my time out in the snow. As I opened the gate to walk back into the house, I looked back at the at the rising sun and low clouds which hung along the foot of the mountains.

I looked back as I opened the gate and felt so thankful.

I can not express enough what living on this little farm has taught me about caring for our animals and myself. It has made me strong and capable of doing things I did not know I could do.

Being a farmgirl is not easy at first but you learn by doing. All the books about farming and animal care can help but it is the experience that is the greatest teacher.

5 Reiki Principles We Can All Live By

5 Reiki Principles We Can All Live By

These principles are beneficial guidelines to follow for a more harmonious experience as you go about your daily life. It begins with  "Just for today" Just focus on today. It is not necessary to be perfect every day of your life. That creates tension just to think about that. So just for today you can quell your anger, focus on something interesting besides your worry.  Be honest. Be Grateful, Be kind and compassionate.

 You will find many versions of the Reiki Principles but they all express a way of life that can benefit us when practiced.

The principles may have been inspired by Buddha teachings. Some say Emperor Meiji of Japan wrote them during his reign of 1858-1912. Usui may have adopted his own version as far back as 1915 from a book entitled Kenzen no Genri (Principles of Health), written by a Dr. Bizan (or: Miyama?) Suzuki, contains the following short passage (or poem, if you prefer):published 1914

Here is how it is written in this book:

Today only

Do not be angry

Do not be afraid

With integrity

Be diligent in your professional duties

Be kind to people

Here is the version I learned. You can see how they convey the same ideas.

Every morning and evening

Join your hands in prayer

Pray these words with your heart

And chant these words with your mouth

Just for today

I will let go of anger. I will not worry

I will count my many blessings

I will do my work honestly

I will be kind to every person and every living thing.

The Inside  of my Reiki Principles Greeting Card has the 5 Principles. You can buy this in my Simple Spark Store .
